These Native American shelter posters not only decorate your social studies classroom but help to reinforce your early American lesson plans as well.

This resource focuses on 11 different types of Indigenous Native American dwellings historically found on the land that became the United States. Geography greatly affected the types of dwellings that were built. Students are asked to consider how climate and the resources found geographically influenced the design of the various dwellings.

This resource is a non-editable PDF and includes:

12 Posters (12 pages) - Title, cliff dwelling, wigwam, longhouse, chickee, wattle & daub, teepee, grass hut, earth lodge, pueblo, plank house and igloo. Posters are sized one per 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

History Files Cover Sheet (1 page) - Cover sheet for students' work.

Worksheet Option 1 (1 page) - A one-page history files worksheet with a space to write notes as well as space for students to draw a picture of the dwelling. The same page can be used for one or all dwellings.

Worksheet Option 2 (11 pages) - Rather than students drawing pictures, B/W clipart of each dwelling is shown. Students add notes and can also color in the pictures of the workers to add a little creativity.

Answer Sheet (1 page) - Possible answers for a question posed about geography.
