Non-Fiction Text Structure Sort (Print and Digital)

Non-fiction sort board, cards and recording sheet. This sorting activity is intended for use at a literacy center. It now also contains a digital Google Slide option!

How does this work?

The student places the six category cards on the marked spots. Next, they place the appropriate definition cards under the category cards. Then, they sort the 18 numbered cards placing them under the appropriate category. Lastly, students complete a recording sheet indicating the structures and signal words found.

The Nonfiction Structures included are:

✔ Cause and Effect

✔ Problem and Solution

✔ Question and Answer

✔ Compare and Contrast

✔ Description

✔ Sequence

Please note: I added the online option due to numerous teacher requests. The sort is all on ONE Google Slide. If your students are working on very small screen devices then the paper option will likely be a better fit for your class.
